Vaults guide

Create vaults, add and manage password entries, search, copy credentials, and save your data securely.

1. What is a vault?

A vault is an encrypted container for password entries. Each vault is independently encrypted with your master password before being stored on the server. You can have multiple vaults — for example, one for personal accounts and one for work credentials.

Vaults appear in two sections on the Vaults page:

  • Personal vaults — owned by you alone.
  • Organisation vaults — owned by an organisation you belong to, shared with other members. The organisation name appears in the vault's badge.

Each vault card shows a permission badge indicating your access level:

  • read — view and copy entries only.
  • write — add, edit, and delete entries.
  • manage — full control including deleting the vault.

2. Creating a vault

  1. On the Vaults page, click New vault and enter a name and optional description.
  2. Choose the owner:
    • Personal — only you can access it.
    • Organisation — shared with members of an organisation. Select the organisation from the dropdown. You must be an Admin or Owner of the chosen organisation.
  3. Click Create vault.

The vault is created and immediately encrypted with your master password. An empty initial payload is saved to the server.

3. Loading a vault

Click any vault row in the list. The encrypted data is downloaded and decrypted locally using your master password. The vault's entries are displayed in the vault detail view.

If the vault is new or empty, you will see a message prompting you to add entries.

4. Adding password entries

  1. In the vault detail view, fill in the Add entry form:
    • Name — e.g. "GitHub" or "Work email" (required).
    • Username — the login name or email (required).
    • Password — paste or generate one (required).
    • URL — the website address (optional).
    • Notes — any extra information (optional).
  2. Click Add entry.
  3. Click Save vault data.
Always save before leaving. Entries only exist in memory until you click Save vault data. If you close the tab, switch vaults, or are logged out by inactivity before saving, unsaved entries are lost.

5. Using the password generator

Click Generate next to the password field when adding an entry, or use the Generate password shortcut on the Home page. A strong 16-character password containing uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols is filled in automatically. You can generate again as many times as you like before saving.

6. Copying credentials

Inside a loaded vault, each entry has two copy actions:

  • Copy username — copies the username to your clipboard immediately.
  • Show / copy password — opens the entry drawer, reveals the password on demand, and copies it to your clipboard. The clipboard contents are cleared automatically after 60 seconds.

7. Searching entries

Use the global search in the app bar (or press Ctrl + K) to filter vaults and entries by name, username, URL, or notes. The filter is case-insensitive.

8. Saving vault data

Click Save vault data after any change (adding, editing, or deleting an entry). This encrypts the full entry list and uploads it to the server. You will see a snackbar confirmation when the save is complete.

9. Deleting an entry

  1. Open the entry from the loaded vault and click Delete entry in the drawer footer.
  2. Confirm the prompt.
  3. Click Save vault data to make the deletion permanent.

If you do not save, the entry will reappear the next time you load the vault.

10. Deleting a vault

This permanently deletes the vault and all entries inside it. It cannot be undone.

You need manage permission to delete a vault. Click the delete icon on the vault card in the Vaults list, or the Delete current vault button inside the vault detail view. Confirm the prompt when asked.

11. Switching vaults

Click Back to vaults from the vault detail view to return to the vault list. Any unsaved changes are discarded — save first if needed.

12. Frequently asked questions

I added entries but they disappeared. What happened?

You likely closed the tab or were logged out before clicking Save vault data. Entries are only persisted when you save explicitly.

How many vaults can I have?

There is no hard limit on the number of vaults. Each vault is a separate encrypted file in storage.

Can I rename a vault?

Vault renaming is not yet supported. As a workaround, create a new vault with the desired name, move your entries manually, and delete the old vault.

Can I share a vault with a specific person without creating an organisation?

Not directly — vault sharing is done through organisations. Create an organisation, add the person as a member, and create an organisation-owned vault.
